How To Really Get Rid Of Blackheads

How To Really Get Rid Of Blackheads

Don’t let the clickbait fool you, won’t do it. The truth is that they are actually useless at removing blackheads and do nothing more than irritate your skin.

Resulting from a build-up of sebum and dead skin cells, blackheads are a non-inflammatory type of acne that doesn’t cause pain nor tenderness. They are caused by a number of reasons including hormone fluctuations, stress and humidity; which is why they tend to pop up more during the summer.

The Solution

Salicylic Acid: as an oil-soluble BHA it penetrates into pores to dissolve sebum and prompt the shedding of skin cells. If you have sensitive skin it might be a good idea to start with a salicylic acid cleanser or mask instead of a leave on. However, If your skin is more on the dry side, opt for an AHA such as lactic acid to exfoliate but also hydrate.

What To Avoid

Although it can be tempting to use pore strips, mainly in anticipation of that satisfying moment when you get to pull it off to

reveal all the gunk it’s extracted out of your skin, that is unfortunately not the case. Not only will you pull it off and be greeted with nothing, they can be very irritating to the skin, causing more harm than good. Another thing you should never do is try to squeeze out the blackheads. That will only cause irritation making the skin appear inflamed and the blackhead more visible and it could potentially lead to infection.

So the best thing to do is to apply a chemical exfoliant and just wait for it to do its magic; and remember, consistency is key!
